Week of February 11th

Grammar/Writing
We are working on narrative writing prompts and students will continue to be working on creating extended responses.  An extended response is an response to a prompt that includes an introduction, a body that answers the prompt that cites text evidence and a strong conclusion.  The writing occurs after the student has read, typically, two related texts.  

Math
We will wrap up our dividing fractions unit and begin our unit on Volume this week. Fractions and decimals are heavily tested on GMAS, so consistent practice on these topics is crucial. Please have your child review their interactive notes  nightly for practice.

Reading
We will be identifying different text structures in informational text. Students will practice reading  works from multiple sources and use graphic organizers to gain deeper understanding of the information that they read.

Science
We will be studying electricity and magnetism.  With our new topic, we will be practicing Close Reading Strategies.  Close Reading helps with Comprehension and is essential in the reading process.  We are developing our grasp of the RACE strategy, which is a process used to answer Constructed Responses. We will also conduct labs to enhance mastery of the subject.

Social Studies
We will be practicing Close Reading Strategies to gain deeper understanding of social studies topics. We are currently learning about World War II.

Week of January 28th

Grammar/Writing

We will be practicing Close Reading Strategies to gain deeper understanding of social studies topics. We are currently learning about the Holocaust.  Your child will also soon be participating in an in school project dealing with budgeting.

Week of Oct 29th

Grammar/Writing
We will continue our opinion writing unit. Students will be working on building the body of their essay and producing a strong conclusion.  

Math
We will continue to work on mastering long division.  This can be a very challenging task, so practice at home is beneficial!  We will soon be introducing decimals to our division strategies, so again...practice, practice, practice! 

Reading
We will be learning about identifying different text structures in informational text. Students will practice reading paired passages and using graphic organizers to gain deeper understanding of the information that they read.

Science
We will be studying microorganisms.  With our new topic, we will be practicing Close Reading Strategies.  Close Reading helps with Comprehension and is essential in the reading process.  We are developing our grasp of the RACE strategy, which is a process used to answer Constructed Responses. We will also conduct labs to enhance mastery of the subject.

Social Studies
Your child will be practicing Close Reading Strategies to gain deeper understanding of social studies topics. We are currently learning about World War I and its impact.

Grammar/Writing
We will begin our opinion writing unit. Students will be working on writing introductions and brainstorming reasons and examples to support their opinion. WriteScore testing is also this week!

Math
Your child will be working on multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals with models. 

Reading
Your child will be learning about identifying different text structures in informational text. Students will practice reading paired passages and using graphic organizers to gain deeper understanding of the information that they read.

Science
Your child will be practicing Close Reading Strategies.  Close Reading helps with Comprehension and is essential in the reading process.  We are developing our grasp of the RACE strategy, which is a process used to answer Constructed Responses. Our topics include learning about cells.

Social Studies
Your child will be practicing Close Reading Strategies to gain deeper understanding of social studies topics. We are currently learning about World War I and its impact.

Grammar/Writing
We will begin our informational writing unit. Students will learn to write extended response essays on content covered in social studies and science. Students will also learn how to organize their writing using graphic organizers and sentence starters. This week will focus  on building body paragraphs and conclusions.

Math
Your child will be working on adding and subtracting decimals in class.


Reading
Your child will be learning about identifying different text structures in informational text. Students will practice reading paired passages and using graphic organizers to gain deeper understanding of the information that they read.

Science
Your child will be practicing Close Reading Strategies.  Close Reading helps with Comprehension and is essential in the reading process.  We are developing our grasp of the RACE strategy, which is a process used to answer Constructed Responses. Our topics include constructive and destructive forces, landforms, the Earth's plates.

Social Studies
Your child will be practicing Close Reading Strategies to gain deeper understanding of social studies topics. We are currently learning about events that impacted the Turn of the Century.
